Theology
Jan 11 2008, 6:28 AM EST
Being the technophobe not sure if this is the right place to start this. I am curious about the theological underpinnings or not of this project. I know this can take several different directions - ecclesiology, mission etc but be interested in hearing from those who started the project the assumptions that you started with. If people join in, the discussion examining those assumptions may be of benefit to those responsible for running and developing the project. I suppose part of my initial interest is a) intentionality of church and whether this is intrinisic to mission b) contextual or liberationist theological perspectives i.e. how does workers Christianity relate to the context of working with young people in particular contexts with particular life stories and cultural practices and c) how does intentionality around church link to faith commitments and ethical understandings of youth work practice. Thanks for inviting me to join in and hope this is a helpful first contribution. Tim

Thanks TimI have posted a page called growing church (under the About Church on the Edge section) which begins to unpack some of the under lying theology and assumptions. Part of my orginal concern with Jonny was the lack mission impetus in emerging church circles and the lack of church missiological youth work, so to explore what we could learn from one another and use an action research approach. I will also set up a link if i can work it out to a powerpoint which draws some of this together called beyond inside out. Richard Do you find this valuable? |

Just saying hello. Will be interested to see your powerpoint. The young people I was working with last year were caught up in dealing with some difficult personal circumstances, so found it hard to be outward looking - which of course is harder for young people often in any case. So I focussed on encouraging the group to pray for issues and people. From that I felt their concern would naturally form and emerge in God's time into action. 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
